I just remembered I have to do a photoshoot for my Photoshop class...panic rising...anger....denial...procrastination...Okay, I'm better now.
I'm considering adding a UC Men's Octet FAQ (based on the YouTube videos) and smart-alek-y answers to common statements about the Octet videos. I'm not sure when it will be posted. I have lots of projects going on at the moment. I want to get all the questions and answers completed before I start posting, or else I'll get lost in the process and give up in frustration. I just remembered I have to do a photoshoot for my Photoshop class...panic rising...anger....denial...procrastination...Okay, I'm better now. Okay, it's late. I'm gonna post this and then fall asleep to "I Accuse My Parents" ala MST3K. The is what is known as 'riffing' movies. Enjoy the little field trip into my psyche and be glad you never have to endure watching a movie with me. Have a sample, won't you? Thank You.

I posted an 'unfinished' piece from the BoRhap video. I didn't like the fact that, no matter what I do, I will not get any kind of features on Kenny Kamrin's face. Let's just call it a pen tool exercize and leave it at that. I'm working on a Ben Sae-Tang piece, between projects.
On a sad note, RIP to Andrew Koenig. I was friends with him on MySpace for awhile...until I discovered fb. We hardly ever agreed on anything, but he was a funny and talented guy. The Twenty-Ten Octet are competing in the ICCA quarterfinals today (hosted by the California Golden Overtones - Yay Tones!). The ICCA's are the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, and the Octet are the only group to have won the championship twice! This was in 1998 and 2000. Apparently there was no winner in 1999. I'm not sure why, so I'll have to look into it. Each group performs a short set that showcases its strengths. The group is judged on musical ability as well as the overall performance of the group - including choreo - (this years "Down/Forever" should wow the judges). Break a leg, Octet...that's showbiz talk for "good luck" - unless I've been duped by childhood television...Again. Below is a performance of Down/Forever that was recorded earlier this year. I can't find the ICCA performance...it may have been removed by the poster for some reason. I have heard that the Octet will be advancing to the Semi-Finals in the ICCA's. Good luck, Octet! I'll try to get word out as to where/when, in case anyone wants to catch them live. "Double your pleasure." LOL! This may be vindication to all the people (including me, unfortunately) who were bitching that the Octet didn't sound great when the '09- '10 Octet were new. Jason Mabie set me straight - the group had one returning member, and it would take time for them to gel. Well, they're sounding pretty awesome these days! If you want to check out the Octet Art area, there have been a few additions. I added Parker today. I think I'm improving. Maybe I should have stuck with one style to show this, but hey, I go where my muse leads me.
My joking mantra of the week has been "fine art should begin with tracing" because I can draw, I just can't trace very well. So, I'm being schooled in Adobe Suite, which includes Illustrator. Thus, my week has been filled with pen tool, fill and stroke, layers and frustration. I'm also working on umpteen projects that have to be designed, drawn and printed 'downstairs' in the offset/letterpress/screenprint area in about a month.
This is the first of the promised "bad" Octet art. This was done pretty much this afternoon in Illustrator. Bear with me as I have only begun to learn the program. Also, keep in mind that it was done on my laptop, which doesn't have a mouse. So - touch pad, and a first attempt at Illustrator art. I'll post this here and in the Octet Art page. The future 'pieces' will just be posted on the Art link. Hopefully the pieces will get better as I go along. :) Fair warning, they might not. The tie is pretty horrible, I know. I have mid-terms tomorrow. I hope I do well.
Also, I am now equipped with a rudimentary knowledge of Adobe Illustrator CS4...Hello Bad Octet Art! My friend, when she knew her time was coming to an end left a message to all of her friends and family: When you are finished crying, remember that we had fun fun fun...so, while part of me is still mourning the loss of my dear friend and mentor I do remember the great times we had together and the hope I have. So, I think I'm ready to carry on. Which is a good thing, because I am SO far behind in my classes.
So, my birthday overtook me earlier this week. With the memorial, I almost forgot that it was coming up... Those are the times when I think "seriously. senior moment? already?" The birthday was pretty quiet, and I didn't get what I really (when it came down to brass tacks) wanted, which was an Octet cd. I'm such a subtle hinter that my hints seem to sneak past anyone with birthday present obligations. So, this year I have decided to treat myself to the one thing I wanted for my birthday: the High Octane cd. Yeah. I emailed Keith, and he sent me the ordering information, so technically the ball is rolling. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Thanks for the support. Best, Tiffany |
