3 YEARS IN MAY 05/04/2012
Happy happy friends. I just realized that the Octet fan page is 3 years old this May. I think the actual day is a week or two away, but before I forget (I WILL forget, don't worry about that) I just thought I'd present my heartfelt YAYS! and THANKS! to the Octet (Oldtet, too) for all the good times and all the great surprises! and my heartfelt love and gratitude to Octet and co-fans alike! Bless your collective faces. :) I know that there can always be improvement, and this upcoming year (year 4) I will do better with the site. TTFN, Tiffany Add Comment Jason Mabie Music! 11/30/2011
The ordering information for Jason Mabie's unmastered demo CD is up on the Performing Now page. He's obviously got a passion for the music. Check it out and please support great music by buying his CD. Performing Soon 08/28/2010
If you live in San Fransisco, or will be in that area on September 4th, please consider spending the evening at what promises to be a wonderful musical Octet filled show starring the one and only Jason Mabie! Jordan Meyer and Keith Menconi will also be performing, as well as some former California Golden Overtones. You can send a message to Jason via facebook to get more information (or maybe to his YouTube account (gobears236). If you are able to go, let me know what you think of the show! Best, -me The Octet Live from Maui! 08/10/2010
It was an hour of pure a cappella euphoria. In fact, I was on cloud 9 for a couple of hours after the show. I had a wonderful time watching the guys perform! It seemed like a Sproul performance with the guys dressed in Hawaiian shirts and leis. They had sort of a set list and then took requests through the chat. They commented on camera in answer to the chatters (though I didn't sign up for the chat until about halfway through the show, so I just watched for the longest time.) We got to see what kind of beer Rick was drinking, and Kenny's nickname (?), and one of the Octet mothers request for her son to sing a crooning song. (I love Octo-parents!) I loved the old favorites (I Like Big Butts, Not Pretty Enough, Let's Stay Together) and songs that were new to me, such as Drift Away - solo by Ben, The Lumberjack Song - Solo by Kenny, Shama Lama Ding Dong - solo by Jerome, and a special request of My Girl which was first performed by the '03-04 group with solos by Ben, Parker and Jason. Princess Papuli was particularly funny. Hopefully there will be some sort of video posted of all or part of the show. If so, I will direct you to it. Thank you Men's Octet! I'm not sure when or even if the Octet show will be posted, so I thought I'd post some screencaps from the show - featuring EXTREME OLDTET CLOSEUPS! In My Dreams 06/11/2010
Last night I dreamed about the Octet again. I don't dream about them a lot, and what comes up in the dreams are usually pretty benign (as this dream will tell you.) They usually show up, do something (have coffee, give advice, help with customers) - and then leave. I dreamed that the Octet (and more) were doing some sort of choreo'd street performance remeniciant of Michael Jackson's "Beat It", or Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield". Hahaha. Ben soloed. The song had to do with love, though I can't remember the title. Don't you hate it when you can't remember part of your dream?!? The harder you try, the worse it gets! I want to say it was Wannabe by The Spice Girls, but it wasn't. Also, the guys weren't wearing the blue suits, but you could tell they were the Octet. And there were other people in group besides the Octet, also dancing. (L-l-ladies.) My P.O.V. was from up high, and through a camera, which I pulled out when I realized what was going on. So, in this dream I had no interaction with them at all. :( This may have been brought on by bad chicken...or good chicken...or excitement over the Hawaii reunion. That was my Octet dream. Do you dream about the guys? What happens in those dreams? And any Octet dudes who might read this: how do you feel about it? Is it creepy or sort of cool? One Year Old 05/03/2010
I just realized that the blog is one year old this month! (My first post was actually on the 23rd of May.) It's been my privilege and pleasure to be able to share my love for the Octet with everyone. I can't wait to see what next year brings. I'm working on some special Octet related stuff at the moment, so I'll post more later. ;) BRB 03/31/2010
Yeah, well life blindsided me, again. I'll be back soon to continue with the stuff I learned from the Octet. Sorry, again. Drinking Coffee 03/21/2010
I was sipping a cup of my French Press coffee, and I thought, "you know what would be a good idea? A coffee table book about the Octet." I'm envisioning four color (that's print-speak for "full color"). Lots of archival pictures. Introduce the members. A discography. Awesome. Yep. Maybe have a cd or two of their show-stoppers included in the book. It could be sold in the student store. It might cost a fortune. I probably couldn't afford it, but it would be awesome. Bad Illustrator Art is here.... 02/12/2010
My joking mantra of the week has been "fine art should begin with tracing" because I can draw, I just can't trace very well. So, I'm being schooled in Adobe Suite, which includes Illustrator. Thus, my week has been filled with pen tool, fill and stroke, layers and frustration. I'm also working on umpteen projects that have to be designed, drawn and printed 'downstairs' in the offset/letterpress/screenprint area in about a month. This is the first of the promised "bad" Octet art. This was done pretty much this afternoon in Illustrator. Bear with me as I have only begun to learn the program. Also, keep in mind that it was done on my laptop, which doesn't have a mouse. So - touch pad, and a first attempt at Illustrator art. I'll post this here and in the Octet Art page. The future 'pieces' will just be posted on the Art link. Hopefully the pieces will get better as I go along. :) Fair warning, they might not. The tie is pretty horrible, I know. Fun fun fun 02/04/2010
My friend, when she knew her time was coming to an end left a message to all of her friends and family: When you are finished crying, remember that we had fun fun fun...so, while part of me is still mourning the loss of my dear friend and mentor I do remember the great times we had together and the hope I have. So, I think I'm ready to carry on. Which is a good thing, because I am SO far behind in my classes. So, my birthday overtook me earlier this week. With the memorial, I almost forgot that it was coming up... Those are the times when I think "seriously. senior moment? already?" The birthday was pretty quiet, and I didn't get what I really (when it came down to brass tacks) wanted, which was an Octet cd. I'm such a subtle hinter that my hints seem to sneak past anyone with birthday present obligations. So, this year I have decided to treat myself to the one thing I wanted for my birthday: the High Octane cd. Yeah. I emailed Keith, and he sent me the ordering information, so technically the ball is rolling. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Thanks for the support. Best, Tiffany |
