Ah, the 70's. The Golden Blues aka The UC Men's Octet without the traditional Octo-suit. They are performing on some television show. Now that's some classic undercover Octet. Behold the mellowness.
I know it's been a while since the last post, but I'm back. Ah, the 70's. The Golden Blues aka The UC Men's Octet without the traditional Octo-suit. They are performing on some television show. Now that's some classic undercover Octet. Behold the mellowness.

I just found out that the Octet will be going to Beijing, and so today only at 1 pm the Sproul performance will be performed by Alumni. I wonder who will be there.
I hate change. That's what my friends would tell you, and I freely admit it. It's my issue. I get used to how things are and then, boom, I have to remember how things used to be. And sometimes change is a good thing. I never realize that until after the fact, but there are changes that are for the better. So, it comes with both a glad and heavy heart that I must tell you that some of the current Octet will soon be "Oldtet". Oh, we may see them with the occasional alumni joining the Octet on stage to sing "Princess Papuli" or "I Get Around" during Spring Show or we might remember old favorites as we peruse YouTube's older videos, but they will, from next semester onward, be "Oldtet".
Lawrence Chu who has been in the group forever, Aroon Vijaykar who joined the group slightly after forever and Parth Bhatt whose name I just learned, will be leaving the Octet at the end of the semester. It's always difficult until I see the new group gel. Next semester, the Octet will have some new voices joining them in song. Welcome Zach Johnston and Kyle Crews! I'm sure that they will be wonderful new additions to the Octet! They will probably have another audition to make up the remaining open spot. Well, that's about it for this post - THE FIRST ONE IN APRIL?!? What exactly have I been doing with my time? Oh, and the Octet will be doing an Unbuttoned show (It's FREE, people. Go if you're able to!) Thursday, April 28 · 8:00pm - 9:30pm2050 VLSB (Valley Life Sciences Building) Bless Your Face, -Tiffany Z. Hi Octet Fans. I believe there was a technical problem with the more official version of the video. Below is the complete concert, which was recorded (not by me) on a video camera from the computer. It's a pretty accurate representation of the concert and totally brings back Oldtet concert memories for me. Clips one and two are "Brandy" - solo by Jason Mabie Come Go With Me - solo by Parker Sims; Blue Moon - solo by Kenny Kamrin (features a cool dance break with Ben Sae-Tang) My Girl - solos by Ben Sae-Tang, Parker Sims and Jason Mabie Let's Stay Together - solo by Jordan Meyer Drift Away - solo by Ben Sae-Tang. There are pauses on the computer, but Ben and the guys still sound great! A NEW song by this Octet - "Endless Love". Solos by Parker Sims and Jason Mabie. Arranged by Jerome MC. Not Pretty enough - solo by Rick Wood Blackbird - solo by Ben Sae-Tang. Special whistling by Rick Wood Shama Lama Ding Dong - solo by Jerome MC Help Me Rhonda - solo by Parker Sims - features Octet dance break Baby Got Back The Lumberjack Song - solo by Kenny Kamrin Princess Papuli with Kenny Kamrin as "the Princess". The video is pretty fuzzy, but this was one of the songs which was featured on the Octet's '03 opening video. Well, I hope you enjoyed the concert as much as I did. Well done, Men. And thank you. If I had it all to do again, I would have had some requests of songs which I knew you did (instead of "That Don't Impress Me Much" - weak, Tiffany). With that said, I probably would have requested "Runaround Sue", "Stanfurd Jonah" and/or "Big C".
The 2002-03 Octet will be live streaming a concert on Ustream TONIGHT at 8:00 pm. Please come and see these guys LIVE. So sorry for the short notice, but I just found out about it!
Hey Octo-Fans, there are new Oldtet photos up in the gallery! Check 'em out. Photos courtesy of Brandon Swansfeger, whom I officially love. Thanks for sharing. :)
On a weird side note, I dreamed that I had the Octet over for coffee (I have an 8 cup french press) and nibbles, and I got off on the wrong foot with one of them (won't say who) and he didn't really like me at all. This made me try extra hard to get him to like me, which made things WORSE. Not sure what that means, subconsciously, but it's a good thing it was only a dream. :) Added May 10th A/N The following is additional information posted with the video (Somebody's Cryin'"). All the videos have lineups now, which is so helpful. The guys in this Octet are:"Dave, Ben, Jerome, Andy, Jason, (solo by Brandon) missing, David and Aaron." Not to be a braggart, but I think my first guess was pretty good for a somewhat educated guess. Behold: Slightly Older Oldtet than we are used to! The guys are opening for Artists in Resonance, a mixed a cappella group from Berkeley. The guys, from left to right are...uh, I'm not sure who the first guy is. Second is Ben Sae-Tang (who sang the Tenor 2 part in this Octet), Jerome MC in the glasses (o my heck - LOVE!), not sure who the 4th guy is, and Jason Mabie on the end. The soloist is...um, not sure, but I think it's Brandon, the missing Octo-Dude from '03. That's just a wild stab in the dark, though. I love the song! Well done, Octet! Beyond the Sea! Hey, I learned a new song. :) The guys rearranged themselves a little. It's your job to figure out who they are from now on. On a side note: notice the toilet in the corner. Classy. :) The AiR concert was great! Happily, "Up on the Roof" has been restored to the concert. Solo by Ben Sae-Tang. Well done, guys! Jason Mabie on the solo for Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps. That guy has excellent range. The dancing in the backs are really funny, and pulls the act together nicely. Coney Island Baby is one of my favorite Octet-tunes. Not sure if it's because I'm tired or not, but I think I'll just let this one speak for itself. So, I hope you enjoyed this mini Octo concert. Much love from Seattle.
Have you ever had one of those days when every part of your life was crashing down around your ears, and then at just about midnight on April Fool's Eve, someone does something to make you smile? Well, I have. I'm not sure who it was, but someone sent me a YouTube link with 2 fantastic Octo-videos on it. I mean Old school videos. Like '03-04 Old School! And they made me smile. Not that everything is all great right now, but smiling in the midst of being absolutely lost and not knowing what to do next is pretty okay. I've seen DoReMi done a few times by the Octet, on Sproul and in concert - videos of course. The guys Left to Right are "Fraulein" Robin Kong, Jordan "Liesl" Meyer, Rafa"Louisa" de Leon, Max "Frederich" Cowan, Parker "Kurt" Sims, Brian "Brigitta" Boshes and Josh "Marta" Chang. (Jason "Gretyl" Mabie left the group earlier in the semester for personal reasons, but is alive and well and still enjoys a good song.) Robin clearly steals the show as Fraulein Kong. All the guys are having fun, and the audience obviously loves it. (Looks like it was an audience request.) Also, according to the YouTube site, this was the first annual Unbuttened show. Good on you, men. So, this is R. Kelly's Ignition Remix. I've never heard the original but this sounds good to me. I'm just enjoying the video. :D Can't stop smiling. "Bounce bounce bounce."
Again OMGOMG, thanks for the link. Super quick post today, just because of the transition. Yay, the quarter has ended. I'm not very confident about my grades this quarter, becuause I had a lot of absences. (Being sick and my friend passing away...it added up) Fingers crossed that I can at least get a passing grade. I don't need A's. C's will be just fine. So, below is a video of the current Octet from the Spring Show. She Bangs. It's so hilarious! I know I've got a few more Oldtet videos to get throught (not many, which is probably why I'm not getting to them. Stupid procrastination). Anyway, I admire these guys because their choreo is so smooth! And they have really gelled together as a solid group. I think they can make it to the ICCA finals...btw, semifinals are tomorrow, I think. Good luck Octet. You can do it! (Yes, you can!) I was looking through my flair on Facebook, and I found stuff that were either Octet or Octet-ish flair. Cool, no? It's pretty late. I came home with a migraine at about 4, fell asleep until nine, and have been UP ever since. Let Spring Break begin!
